Kathy Virella is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. Kathy specializes in treating anxiety, depression, paranoid schizophrenia, and trauma related disorders. She began her journey within the mental health field at the University of Central Florida, where she attained a Bachelor’s degree in science majoring in Psychology. During her time at UCF, she was an undergraduate Teacher’s Assistant for Dr. Steven Saunders, where she helped guide students and collaborate on the curriculum for Forensic Psychology. Kathy gained valuable counseling skills with an internship at HD Counseling under Zachary Dodson LMHC. At this private practice, Kathy observed and facilitated group therapy as well as assisted with the administrative work. Following her undergraduate career, Kathy, obtained her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. During her final year in her master’s program at NOVA, Kathy was able to work with Community Health of South Florida Inc.

At CHI, Kathy facilitated group therapy, individual therapy, and Intake Assessments daily. She had the opportunity to work with all types of populations including substance abuse, children, adults, mental health, psychosocial rehabilitation, crisis unit, specialized foster care and PHQ9 screenings. Kathy utilizes different techniques and modalities such as, cognitive behavioral therapy, holistic therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, dialectal behavioral therapy, and family systems. Kathy believes every client is unique and different in their own way and needs to be met at their state of change. Kathy is very passionate about raising awareness about mental health and diminishing the stigma against asking for help.
